Try this, one at a time for each drive you want to test:

1. Attach the drive to the SCSI bus, with the appropriate settings for SCSI 
ID and bus termination.

2. Power on the system, and go to the ok> prompt;

3. Do a "boot -s cdrom"( if you don't have the OS installed) or "boot -rvs 
boot_device" (if the OS is already installed on your internal bootable 
disk).

4. Do a "dmesg|more" to see if the drive is seen by the system.

5. If you can see the drive, do a "format" --> select the new drive --> 
"label" <ENTER>.
