Look carefully at what Compaq says you can put in it.... and unless you have
the parts laying around, don't try going beyond that.

I have a Proliant 1600 that has 2 550MHZ P3 slot 1 cpus in it. The board
uses VRMs, so I obtained VRMs compatabile with coppermine, and put those
in and two coppermine slot 1 cpus...

Can't get past the BIOS check that says basically 'these CPUs I do not
recognize,
so go stuff yourself'. Damn Compaq. I wish I knew how to find and hack
in the
cpu codes/microcode updates into the damn BIOS .... one of the distinct
disadvangates
of name brand, is you can generally only expand within the realm they
want you
to... even if the hardware could go farther.

Grrr.... anyone hacked any Compaq BIOS code ?
