You just haven't met the right dogs.  I'm _not_ a dog person but my
wife _is_ and has an eye for breeding and picking some really damn
smart pups.  They're still _dogs_ but smart ones.

My daughter bought a dauchshund on the other hand, that while a big
hearted dog has the intelligence of a brick.  Watching her mutt and
ours play is an amazing contrast.
