That *is* a good idea, but it's a hard sell.

The last time I saw a desktop rollout, it was 40K desktops.  They never
even remotely considered a client server system, or any alternative to
overpriced Windows desktops from IBM.

That's the kind of mentality you are facing.

Evidently some of you guys have not seen the dark side of corporate
America yet.

At Bank of America, they had 11 very expensive Compaq racks running
Windows NT, each of which I believe was 2-4 machines.  This was just for
file serving.  They had to be rebooted nightly due to memory leaks.

A single large UNIX server would have easily replaced them all.

Nothing in the corporate Wintel world make any bloody sense.
