  It's probably worth trying both. After a few tests a decided to keep
  the R4400/175 in my server - other choice was (among others) the
  R5000SC/150 mentioned here. While the R5000 is a newer CPU and *is*
  faster for some tasks I guess my applications on the server make
  good use of the larger 2nd level cache and thus the machine feels a
  bit snappier with the older CPU (main applications I felt a
  difference: leafnode newsserver/-cache and slrn newsreader).
