<dusts of communications degree> Yep, I use the format taught to me by a
very wise old Irishman (Professor Brad Broughton, who has since passed on).

                                <Date>

<Formal Title of yer manager>

This is to inform you that I will be resigning the position of <job> at
<company> effective <date>.

                                Sincerely,
                                <name>

Then, it is up to them to file with HR, etc. This exposes you to the least
number of side effects. I never tell 'em where I'm going until the letter
has been accepted.

It was weird, the last place I left (NCGR), they wanted to keep it a secret,
but the word got out fast. I also was required to give them 30 days, or
they would hold back vacation time. I have since learned that that was not
legal. (Not that I cared, I need 30 days to train my staff anyway. Then I
took a month off before starting my new job.)
