Quite frankly, earlier versions of CDE are pieces of crap.  Perhaps the
Solaris 7 and 8 versions are better, but I wouldn't count on it.

There are some background daemons that run as root, such as ttdbserver, that
could be getting confused and thus doing the wrong thing.

My suggestion would be to use something else - it is not that good a file
manager to begin with...
