Well, actually, no.  That would be a band-aid on top of a band-aid.

The CORRECT move, but one which it's highly unlikely the government will
actually pull the trigger on because too many of their friends benefit
from the current situation, is to scrap the entire existing tax code and
start over with something that isn't chock-full of loopholes, exceptions
and special privileges and penalties.  Something like the Fair Tax
scheme, for example, which is really quite a clever and elegant scheme.
 The whole reason the AMT became "necessary" in the first place is
because COngress had been stuffing the tax code with loopholes and
exceptions for fifty years in return for favors from wealthy campaign
contributors who wanted to pay less taxes than their neighbors.
