Princeton works very hard to ensure the student population is diverse, and that means gender, nationality, ethnicity, and economically and remember, they draw from an international pool of applicants, not just US... Every high school has a validictorian, so while it may be special in the context of a give graduating class, as far as a "Princeton" or other college is concerned, it really isn't that big an accomplishment (in and of itself).
