I was reading a telecommunications analysis report some years ago, and
the gist of it was that in the last 15 years the cost of providing
a POTS line dropped something like 5-9 times, especially where old
high-maintenance and low traffic density equipment were replaced.

As above, on the one hand telcos brag about this, while at the same time
claiming their costs are much higher.

So... it leaves me to question why my bill is now 3 times higher than it
was then.

You'd like to think the FCC would tell them to make up their mind which
story is the real one.
