My initial experiences with VOIP have been with help from a friend
of mine, but we've been using a set of devices from Sipura (www.sipura.com).

These devices have either an FXO and FXS port or two FXS ports. On the
other side of the device is an ethernet and power jack. There is a web
interface to the device that lets you configure just about anything
you want (if not more than you want).

We also have an asterisk server setup that is configured to use two
different VoIP providers. One provider gives unlimited incoming calls,
but charges 6 cents per minute outgoing. The other provides 2 cent
per minute outgoing. Both of these services have a fairly low monthly
cost as well.

The other neat device that's phone related that I've been using is
from PhoneLabs (www.phonelabs.com). It's called Dock 'n Talk and it
basically is a cell phone to POTS converter. The way I have it setup
is through blue tooth. I have no landline at home and with this device,
I walk into my house, the bluetooth devices do their pairing and then
when someone calls me on my cell phone, it rings the regular phone I
have connected to it. The best part is not having to remember to connect
the device to the phone.
