Ummm...don't you mean Sun doesn't include a COMPILER with their OS?  

I'd LOVE to get a computer with a purchase of Solaris, but I don't think it'll happen...

Sun does not include a computer with their operating system.  You will
need to download and install the GCC compiler from
www.sunfreeware.com.
