>1) Does it have to be the exact version of Sol8 (4/01?). I have installed
2/02
and it seems to work fine so far. Is it > 4/01 or exactly that version. Will
the
patches crash things if I apply them?

I installed 07/01 with no problems, but applying all the additional patches
caused the system to crash and become unbootable. This turned out to be
connected to the 64 bit patches. If you run it in 32 bit mode and don't apply
64 bit patches things work ok (eg, I tried applying the patches for Mozilla,
and
this caused the crash, but if you install gnome 2.0 and leave everything at 32
bit everything works, inc Mozilla). You need to install some patches for Star
Office to work but again this is ok so long as you stick to the 32 bit ones
(omit 108435).

>2) The WVA software to use is that in the Sol8 for UltrabookIIi? Is this
correct or did I misunderstand the README?

yes

>3) Where is the software located to set external screen. The WVA does not
seem
to contain these functions. Are they command line commands? Is it true
1024x1280
does not work with external display? I have this nice 18" TFT and it wants its
native resolution to look its best (1024x1280).

it's command line (or done before booting at ok prompt), but if you use cde
you
can add it to dtwmrc. I got the stuff I've added at the end of this mail from
somewhere and it works no problem. Unless you have the ultrabook with the
creator graphics though I don't think it will do 1280x1024 anyway, but I could
be wrong on that - perhaps you could let me know. (maybe it can do 8 bit
colour
at that res, but that wouldn't look that good anyway)
