Somehow I don't think so. I started a new job in 1986 and used some
money I had saved for a vacation to buy an A1000. By the time I left
that job in 1988, I had an A2000 with a GVC SCSI controller/memory
card. 

While 80386 chips and I suppose computers were available then, everyone
I know that was up on things was buying '286s. I even had a Commodore 80206
computer, bought in late 1988 or early 1989.
