[rescue] Mute Sparc Classic

Here's a stumper:

I have a Sparc Classic 96/4gb running Solaris 9.  The machine responds 
to network requests, but will not make requests itself.  I.e. 
pinging/sshing to the machine works fine, but pinging out fails.

The netmask of the machine is correct, and so is the default gateway.  
Any ideas?
