Therein lies the problem - I design automated assembly machines in 3D, then
I
generate 2D drawings to give to the shop to machine and weld everything.
This is where high-end, proprietary MCAD software excels, and I'm not aware
of anything open-source that can do this.

p.s. - it's so much more fun designing a woodworking project in 3D and
putting
wood textures on the model, and being able to look at it from all sides
nicely
rendered :)
