[rescue] VAX rescue of sorts.. Sunday feel-good tale

This is a VAX rescue of sorts.

A friend of mine had been out of work for awhile. an old Fortran
Oil-Industry Data codger kind of guy, just getting by since the Exxon-Mobil
merger days.

And he actually got a perfect-fit job finally. And thru the classifieds,
not Monster.com.

Its an Exploration Data Service.. they message data and print maps and
such. And the data lives on some old VAX refrigerator (little bigger than
my DEC 4710) and 9-tracks.

Ans whats great about this job for my friend, is that he's an old Oil Data
codger, he uderstands this VAX, he understands Fortran (which appaprently
most Exploration Data guys use), he understands databases, and he can
transisiton them to soemthing, that if it breaks, is fixable.

(Of course, some of you are saying : the VAX will never break.. Perhaps..
but its getting to be: noone knows HOW to use it, even if it is working)

Its the Perfect Fit. Perfect Job. Just a Happy Ending Story.

And PS.. I;m sure in the next couple of years, this machines coming
off-line :-)!
