yes, but....  every time you want to make a change you have to remember to
change it on all the machines.  if you forget, it could take a very long
time to figure out why the hell it doesn't work. :)

although if you do want to keep your /etc/hosts make sure the /etc/hosts on
your DNS server has the most up to date info and just copy that one out to
all the machines when you make a change.
