My sister doesn't see it that way, but my parents do, which is good
enough. They were recently bemoaning that I gave away a 486sx to a friend
when it could have been put to use as a print/zip drive/backup server for
their office. I had the computer sitting unused in the basement for
several monthes before I gave it away though, so they can't complain too
much.

I still haven't been able to convince them that a computer in the kitchen
is a good idea though. I think it would be great for managing shopping
lists, calanders, and recipies. We try to keep paper on the refrig. for
shopping items, but it keeps walking off, and mom insists that telling her
things doesn't count unless we hand it to her in writing. Computer in
kitchen would make it easy to send her shopping items right when we see it
is out. Also could be used for freezer inventory (we have one of those
large storage freezers, and it is a pain to keep track of what is in it).
