Speaking of which, does anyone have information on current or near-term
2-way satellite Internet access that is set up for commercial use?
Gilat2Home/Starband is being deployed but it seems to be set up entirely
for single home users running a Microsoft OS.  I'm trying to find
something that ships with a standalone ethernet bridge and comes with a
static IP block.

I know latency would be brutal to geostationary orbit and back, but it
could still be very useful out in the middle of nowhere without
terrestrial LOS.
