I use a download manager because:

a. I share a line with a bunch of people and don't want to obnoxiously
	saturate the line. So any download I request (from a browser,
	from the command line, etc.) should all go through one queue,
	one at a time.

b. All downloads should go directly to the file server, no matter
	what machine the request came from (ie: don't loop through
	the diskless node running a web browser).

c. It needs to be easily accessable from the command line.

So I wrote my own, and it's pretty trivial (shell scripts, SQL, and wget).
I never got firefox to cooperate with it, so that still requires a copy-url
and button click on the dock, but it was relatively easy to integrate it
with Opera, and completely trivial to make lynx use it.
