I do virtually all my file transfer across the network, and I don't
consider CDs or DVDs a viable backup medium. Period.
Ten years ago, DVDs at today's prices would have been a viable backup
medium, but today they're just too low capacity and too slow to be
useful for any kind of meaningful backup system beyond "Oh, sure, I have
backups. I burn my 'My Documents' folder to a DVD once a month."
