   I'd agree except for the Windows apart.  I really can't see how "hey, 
the OS burped...time to reinstall!" could spoil anyone.

   But anyway, yes, the IRIX installation procedure definitely is 
painful.  I did my first IRIX install when 3.2 was current...it was 
just as painful then, perhaps more so since I was doing it on a 25MHz 
R2000! (a pair of Personal Iris 4D-25Gs)  But once it's done, it's 
done...you won't have to do it again until your disk dies.
