[SunHELP] ide harddisk on ultra10

Dina,

I have used Seagate 40GB hard drives in several
different Ultra 5/10 without any problems. Solaris 8
will see larger than 30GB hard drives (0101 0401
1001). If you search the archive of this mailing
list, you will find all kinds of information on this
issue.

The limitations appear to be in the manner the hard
drive's firmware reports the parameters of the disk.
The archive has the specifics. This means that some
brands of larger hard drives will not work effectively
in the Ultra 5/10. I have always used Seagate 40GB
hard drives with success. Once I tried a 30GB Western
Digital that I purchased from CompUSA and it worked as
well as the Seagates.

Sun support recommended that I upgrade the PROM to the
latest in order to use larger disks but even this is
not necessary.

Hope this helps,

HM
