[SunHELP] System Bottleneck

I'd start by increasing the size of the swap area. Having swap < physical is
generally a bad idea unless you are running in lazy mode.

Well what do you know. I run a site that uses SPM but we use Compaq Alphas.
They beat the absolute
hell out of SPARCs. An fMRI image analysis that took 2 days on the Ultra II
based E6500 we now do in 6hrs. Knowing SPM my guess is that the system may
be swapping heavily. What's the spec of the system in terms of RAM, swap etc
and how are the data volumes mounted?

Actually We have Matlab on one of our SUN m/cs (ULTRA 80), preferable for
running one of our other programs (SPM) which requires matlab .
Starting matlab is fine . But when i start spm the CPU utilization increases
to abt 90% . The system bcomes dead slow .
Running vmstat shows a very high value of system calls

I think that means that thers a SYS bottleneck right ...

Corkscrew?

Sorry, couldn't resist.

What is the bottleneck and why do you think you have one? Usual solutions
are faster networks, more memory, bigger, faster disks, extra CPUS. Define
the problem a bit more.
