It is a bit of a shocker. Still, since both were committed to going Itanium
(EV8) there may be a  certain amount of sense to it at the high end.
Corporation wars one step nearer?

According to this New York Times article ,
HP will be acquiring Compaq in a stock deal worth approximately $25 billion.
