Here are the notes on the 501-5690 from the FEH 1.5:

Notes

   1.The minimum OS is Solaris 2.5.1 HW: 11/97 or 2.6 HW: 3/98. 
   2.The FFB2+ is not compatible with 300MHz Module 501-4196. 
   3.The FFB2+ is not compatible with 300MHz Module <=501-4849-02. 
   4.The 300MHz Module is not compatible with FFB2+ <=501-4788-02. 

The 501-5690 is a X3670 option:

Creator3D Series 3 (FFB2+)
24-Bit Color Frame Buffer
A16 / A22 / A23
Options 3663 / 3670
501-4788  501-5690

The X3659A is a Creator 3D Series 2, part number 501-4172:

Creator3D Series 2 (FFB2)
24-Bit Color Frame Buffer
A16 / A23
Options 3659 / 7133 / 7141
501-4172

The Series 2 frame buffer will work in a U30 with any supported 300 MHz
processor.  The Series 3 frame buffer is not compatible with the
501-4196 300 MHz CPU.  This frame buffer needs the 501-4859 300 MHz
CPU.  400 MHz CPU's are not supported in the U30, but I have heard that
they will work with the right jumper settings.
