Eh, no, two different technologies.

Live Upgrade is an install of Solaris onto a seperate set
of disks than the ones you're running off now. 

Hot patching is something not expected to be used very often - hasn't been
used in a publically available patch so far *AFAIK*.

Hot patching allows you to update a running kernel - This is really
only useful for large systems which are earning large amounts of
money and can't possibly go down at any stage to be patched. This
feature is mainly of use to Sun sales people and Sun engineers supporting
large mission critical systems.
