try prtdiag -v for firmware and go to www.sunsolve.sun.com for patches. If you're doing a fresh install you can just download and install the patch cluster to get the necessary patches for your O/S. As for recommended versions? Depends on what you want to run. Most recent is 8 but I've found a lot of folks still on 2.6 which is pretty stable. Ron
