It seems that the printer setup might have gone wrong.. Check your printer
setup.. and follwing might help you..

A class is named group of printers created with the lpadmin command.

the advantage of class of printer is that once it is created, it allowes the
print service to print the job to available printer matching the requeted
job content type.
and one can also create a class of printers to ensure that thee printers are
accessed in the partucular order.

NOTE : the print service always checks for the pritner availabality using
the order in which the printers were added to class.

command lpadmin for creating class:
# lpadmin -p printer_name -c class_name
e.g: # lpadmin -p hp4 -c laser
        # lpadmin -p hp4-1 -c laser
        # lpadmin -p hp4-2 -c laser

command accept : # accept laser --- this command should follow the lpadmin
after the creation of class.where laser is is class created in last e.g:

Priting to a class of printers :
        $ lp -d laser /export/home/ilyas/test.

Subject: [Sunhelp] printer class

Hi,

I have added 3 printers to the system using the admin tool. I would like
to setup a printer class (3 HP Laserjet 8100 running 10/100 jetdirect
cards).

>From the man pages/answerbooks, the order that you add a printer to a
class is the order of the print priority.

According to the answerbooks, to add a printer to a class you run:
lpadmin -p printer_1 -c classname

But... When i run the above command, i get:
#lpadmin -p printer_1 -c classname
UX:lpadmin: ERROR: Missing -U or -v option.
TO FIX: Local printers must have
a port defined (-v option) or
                   have dial-out instructions (-U option).

Can someone please point me in the proper direction?
