I know that the IBM terminals work, if you have a
terminal card (controller).. Which RS/6000 is it?
(i.e. a 590, F50, 43P, etc)

On the HPs... you have to go into BOOTADMIN
mode (press ESC when it 1st boots and then
you shall get a menu, "a" for boot admin), and
then type
path console
and it shall show you which one it is using.
type
path console rs232_a.9600.8.none
and it will set it to serial port "A"
at 9600 baud, 8 bits no parity.

The above works on the 9000 models
(i.e. the 9000/720 etc) Note that depending
on your model, this will require you to have a
DB9 to DB9 null modem adapter, as the serial
ports are DB9 and mine required a null modem
adapter to work.

Hope this helps...

Reply-To: sunhelp at sunhelp.org

Does anyone know what terminals work with RS/6000's
and how to hook
them up?
Are the serial ports on these machines like some of
the newer Suns,
where both ports are
combined into a single DB25 port?
Also, is a serial console supported on the HP 725/50,
or other HP
workstations?

Thanks all,

Paul
