[SPARCbook] Linux and SPARCBook

Linux on SPARC is great, Linux on SPARCBook is not great ;^(

The issues revolve around a lack of drivers for the unique power/temp
regulators built in to the sparcbook. The Framebuffer also presents a
challenge as well. The Sun CD-ROM FAQ should be able to help
you find a bootable CD-ROM drive for your SPARCBook (any
Sun bootable drive can be used, the FAQ tells you what to look for).

If you look at Hugo's FAQ (linked to off of sunhelp.org) there are
some other "free" OSs that support the sparcbook better than Linux.

I decided to go with Solaris 2.6 on mine - it is a nice, stable environment,
offers CDE and other nicities, and Tadpole has made lots of software tools
available (command line software, not GUI like their NCE package).

I may migrate to Solaris 7 at the end of the year (the estimated time frame
Tadpole will free up their Solaris 7 tools for the SPARCBook), but for now
Solaris 2.6 is running great...

Sorry,

Ken
