i assume thta by 'hazmat collector' you mean a battery recycler.  just
fyi and fwiw a few minutes' search turned call2recycle.org, which
located the town of meredith and the gilford lowes as taking
rechargeables.

they show lowes, home depot, and staples around me as taking them
also, which suggests corporate policies.
