I did some test on 32-bit vs 64-bit userland on 64-bit kernel, with
sparclinux. The results varied by test, by about 10-20% - sometimes one
was faster, sometimes another. No clear winner.

Is that really a problem in Solaris? I saw LFS (Large File Summit?)
implemented 10-15 years ago, providing 64-bit file offsets and all the
related API on 32-bit systems, in both Linux and Solaris. See
_LARGEFILE_SOURCE and _LARGEFILE64_SOURCE defines.
