Dave,

Note sure if this was a cry for help, or just announcing future work out loud,
but here is the root passwd recovery stuff, for you and the rest of the list to
enjoy.

This is from my ATT Advanced System Administration training class - FS1103

If someone really needs is, I can do an actual (image) scan on this page.

Instructor Reference 1.

Magic Mode.

1. Insert cartride or first floppy of essential utilities.

2. go to firmware.

3. Boot /unix from the tape.

4. Type "magic mode" at the full/partial restore prompt.

5. Type "shell".

6. Check the root file system.

fsck /dev/dsk/c1t1d0s0

7. Mount the root file system

mount /dev/dsk/c1t1d0s0 /mnt

8. Edit the passwd file to modify root login (or other logins).

/mnt/bin/ed /mnt/etc/passwd

9. Umount the root file system.

umount /mnt

10. Reboot the system.

uadmin 2 1

Enjoy. :)

Jerry
