[rescue] Trackball slowdown

I have a Logitech Trackman that gets gummed up and causes the trackball not
to function very well occasionally. In the past I have taken it apart and
wiped the trackball and the bearing points with a microfiber cloth and it
has come back to normal.

Lately it is sticking and not working well and the way I used to clean it
doesn't help. It's becoming impossible to use.

Do these simply wear out and go into the garbage like most modern stuff or
is there some other way to fix this? It feels like it needs lube of some
kind but that also seems like it would be a very bad idea.

Thanks for any suggestions.
