[rescue] Whither Solaris 10

http://www.oracle.com/us/support/library/lifetime-support-hardware-301321.pdf

shows that premier support for Solaris 10 ends in 2018.

I have been told at Oracle user group meetings that S10 U11 will be
the last release.

Given that Solaris 11 is almost 5 years old now (11/11/2011) and
that Solaris 12 will be released in a year or two, it is unlikely that
any development work is going in in Solaris 10. Some things may well
still be back ported.

My fear is that given the fact that applications must be reinstalled
for Solaris 11, many companies will take the opportunity to switch to
Linux. Solaris 10 will of course run in zones, but at some stage the
bullet will have to be bitten.

I would like Oracle not to discount this danger.
