I got an ancient Dell D600 running solaris b54, using only 1 internal
drive, but I carry an external USB if I'm going somewhere. So I have
more than half a TB of storage with me, ZFS of course. One could use
their ipod too (I also have a battery powered drive for when I really
need to be mobile). Bootable ZFS will be a great fs for laptops as it
will replicate data across multiple areas of the drive, able to
recover and continue even after some damage. Of course if the drive is
100% dead... That's why the USB drive. I backup to it, and take
snapshots. I also have a ZFS partition on the laptop disk that way I
can easily move data back and forth.
