It's not quite instant-on, but my Samsung ML2010 (also sold as Dell's
low-end $100 mono laser) takes about 20-30 seconds from "cold" to 
"printing".  Not bad for a printer that I got on-sale for $65.  

Unfortunately its one of the types where the drum and everything are in
the toner cartridge, so "refills" cost me about $75/year.  I made the
mistake of buying a third-party remanufactured cartridge ($50), but the
drum gears wore out on the cartridge itself, before it was out of toner.
Replaced it with a gen-u-ine Samsung cart from Office Depot and it works
fine.

Still, it's better than paying for ink!
