Sometimes I forget how broken RH's default installs can be (for my usage)
and how many things I just automatically fix after I install and don't even
think about:

fix /etc/sysconfig/i18n and make LANG=C instead of en_US
rm /etc/screenrc
rm /etc/inputrc
install nvi

Things start to get a little better behaved after that.
