3D Realms also open-sourced a lot of their old games too, like Duke
Nukem 3D and Shadow Warrior.  The only thing is you have to have the
original CDs to get all the maps and models out of it too.

If you want to do some of your won hacking and get Quake 2 working,
head over to http;//www.icculus.org/quake2/ and download the source.
They have it working on Solaris 10 on sparc (yay!) so there definitely
is a way to get this stuff ported to other architectures.
