Copy protection in general is getting more and more sinister.

Among PC games:

    - Half Life 2 

	Requires decryption of the entire DVD before you can play, and a
	really screwed up online update/everything system called Steam.
	It's horribly slow even on broadband, and you have to be online
	to play the game.

    - Silent Hunter III

        Installs a copy protection system called Starforce on your PC
        without telling you.  Not only does it "protect" SH3, but it
        interferes with CD/DVD burners and other software.

I figured enough people realized the futility of this that it would
stop, but it seems to be getting worse.

I can't back up half of my expensive software already without going
through hours or even days of trial and error to figure out how
to make a backup.

I install cracks of software I buy because the copy protection is so bad,
and because I think it is bloody stupid to have to have a !$@#$% dongle
or CD installed when all the software I need is on the hard drive.

That's what I have a hard drive for dammit!

All this crap needs to stop.  All it does is punish the people who
actually support the software providers, and software providers don't
exactly have a good track record of quality and support.
