I really hate to be an asshole about this, but how much of the "Greater
good" should we sacrifice for the individual?  How much are we bringing
the folks with ASD up to the level of everyone else VS how much are we
pushing down everyone else to put them on the level of those with ASD?  I
currently consider the US school system next to worthless.   My
understanding is it's gotten worse since I got out, and the only reason I
gained anything from it is my own personal motivation & curiousity.  There
are good teachers out there, but the courses they're forced to follow are
watered down to the point of uselessness.  This whole "No child left
behind" is a great theory, but some kids need to be left behind, and some
need to retake grade X 4 times.  Let each kid learn at her or his own
rate.  Don't force the folks who can learn a "year" of school in 1/2 of
that to sit around waiting, and on the other side, don't force those who
take 2 years to learn the same "year" to speed up.  Everyone learns just a
bit differently, take that into account.  Bah, nice rant, anyone got
helpfull ways to apply it, with a baseball bat if required?
