I keep trying to get the time to get into FORTH since I have seen some
amazing things done with it. FORTH does have a bit of a steep learning
curve, but the productivity of a decent FORTH programmer is almost
unbelievable.

If anyone remembers the A2FS1 flight simulator on the Apple II, a
simplified Piper Cub simulator running at about 3 to 5 frames a second.
I saw a version ported to FORTH and using an AM-9511 math co-processor
that was doing a full simulation of a Phantom F4E doing carrier landings
(written for the Navy) running at 11 frames a second on an Apple II.
They
said that the limitation was that the Apple II could not display any
faster!

Or the first non-IBM word processor for the IBM PC, Easywriter. A port
from Easywriter on the Apple II. It was written by Ken Draper. He did
both the port of FORTH and Easywriter in two weeks.
