my aunt, who is nice but tougher than dirt [0], was down near 50%.
they did the blood workup three times, then asked her 'why aren't you
unconscious?'

[0] anthropologist.  amongst other things, spent 15 months in new
guinea in a village three days walk from 'civilization' with folk who
had been headhunters and cannibals within living memory.  and were so
isolated they had to adopt her into a family to relate to her.  and
when she went, nobody knew -anything- about them, including their
language - which was kind of hte point.
