   Yes.  This is why I laugh my ass off at people who insist they need a 
multi-hundred-MHz or -GHz processor to use for simple networking tasks.

   Even as a router or other "data mover"...at SkyCache, we had hundreds 
of SPARCstation-5 machines in the field, doing real-time translations 
between five or six different protocols, lots of CRC calculations, and 
statistical monitoring...pumping data at 44Mbps (yes, T-3 speed) 24x7.

   The machines were mostly the 85MHz version, running NetBSD v1.3.1, 
with 100Mbps Ethernet cards.
