Well, not to be a prick (well, not a big prick anyway ;^) - you can't
track folks that have "given up even TRYING to look for work" - how
would you capture that?

The statisitic that is usually cited w/r/t unemployment numbers is the
number of people that are currently receiving unemployment benefits,
which expire after 6->12 months, IIRC. Once your benfits expire, you
are no longer counted in the unemployment statistics, ince you are no
longer enrolled/tracked.

Working spouse, parents, children, community, lottery, crime (and other
forms of self-employment ;^), etc...
