Well, nowadays the compiler is mostly the same and so only low-level OS
features like meory management (TLB-s, software page tables etc)
counts... hard to tell which is the best without testing.

There have been done tests of Macos X 10.1.5 and SuSE Linux with
kernel 2.4.19. Unfortunately the original article in byte.com is now
pay-only and I managed to get only the slashot article:

I remember it being 5-20% in favour of Linux on the average. Of course,
both MacOS and Linux have gone a long way since so I don't know how big
the difference is now.
