The M in the designation means that it has the postscript simm 
installed in it. back in the old days the only printers Macs could 
easily talk to were postscript ones, so the M stands for Mac 
compatible. I have a 5MP that has postscript, and if you find an old 
printer with the m designation that doesn't do postscript, look for an 
empty simm socket, the PS simm has been removed!
