No doubt IBM, Seagate and Fujitsu are top drives for heavy-usage RAIDs.  

But have people really been having that much of a problem with WD drives 
manufactured in the last 3-4 years?  I have several in my Linux boxen and 
they've showed no problems (so far).  Granted, they're not thrased constantly 
either.

What part of a drive is usually the first to go?  The platter motor/bearing?  
The servo arm(s)?  The head(s) on those arm(s)?  Oxide on the platters 
wearing off (or is it something other than an oxide process)?
